NCAA 10 Top 25 – Overrated and Underrated Teams

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Now that we’ve had some time to look at EA’s top 25 rankings for NCAA 10 (you can view them here), we’ve come up with a list of teams that we think are either overrated, underrated, or got snubbed entirely. Let’s dive right in:

OVERRATED – #17 BYU
– The Cougars are the top ranked team from the Mountain West at #17. While we think BYU is top-25 worthy, we think 17 is a bit too high, especially considering they are ahead of both TCU and Utah. BYU opens the season against Oklahoma, and also get Florida State early on. Two losses in their first three games will likely drop the Cougars from the top 25, and they will need to spend the rest of the season climbing back up the rankings. QB Max Hall is the best QB in the conference, but we think BYU loses at least 3 games and finishes the season in the 20-25 range at best. Our Pick: 20-25

2009 Pac 10 Football Predictions

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

It’s a 3 team race for the Pac 10 title in 2009. If ever there is a time to knock USC off its perch atop the conference it’s this year. The Trojans have to replace their starting QB and a boatload on defense. The window of opportunity is small though, as Pete Carroll’s USC team always manages to re-load and be among the most talented teams in the country year in and year out. Oregon and Cal are the top challengers for USC’s throne this year; read on to see if we think they have enough to get it done.

2009 ACC Football Predictions

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

The ACC is a lot like the Big East in that they lack a true national title threat, but the competition within the conference will be fierce. Now, unlike the Big East, the ACC has several teams worthy of top 25 consideration and a couple that could crack the top 10. But the real competition within the ACC will be in the middle of the pack. We are pretty set on our top 3 and bottom 3, but there are 6 teams that could finish anywhere in the 4th-9th range. Read on for our breakdown of each team.

2009 Big East Football Predictions

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

rosters

The Big East is wide open this year. We could see any of the teams we have listed 1-4 winning the conference, and it wouldn’t at all be shocking to see Cincinnati or Connecticut as well. Each team in the conference has some major questions they need to answer, but each team also has bright spots and some great potential. Teams will beat up on each other and there are no gimme games on any team’s conference slate. In the end, we think West Virginia defeats Pitt on Nov. 27th to lock up the conference crown…but be prepared for any of these teams to make a run at the top of the Big East in 2009.

EA has released the third aspect of NCAA 10’s new Season Showdown feature (skill and strategy being the other two): Sportsmanship.

For those who don’t already know, Season Showdown is an online feature that tracks how well each school’s fans perform using a variety of categories. Each week there will be match-ups based on who each team plays in real life. For example, in Season Showdown Georgia fans will be squaring off against Oklahoma State fans on NCAA 10 while the real Bulldogs and Cowboys fight it out on the field.

The Sportsmanship feature’s main purpose is to discourage players from “cheesing”, while rewarding the players who play games straight up and realistically. There are several different ways to both gain and lose Sportsmanship points throughout the game:

Big 10 Conference Football Predictions – 2009 Season

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

The Big 10 has several football teams who may be able to challenge for the conference title in ’09, and this is how it actually played out….

Champion – The Ohio State Buckeyes (7-1): Tryrell Pryor consistently gives Big 10 defenses fits. Ohio State’s defense steadily improves throughout the season. The Buckeyes enter their usual BCS bowl season on somewhat of a sour note however. Michigan hands Ohio State their first conference loss in the season finale, costing them the their chance at yet another BCS Championship game appearance.

rosters

  • T-2. Iowa (6-2): The Hawkeyes are able to put together another solid season under Kirk Ferentz. Iowa’s offense explodes out of the gates, and the Hawkeyes get through non-conference play without a scratch. Impressive wins @Penn St and @Wisconsin push an undefeated Iowa into the top 10 rankings by mid-October. But a loss @Michigan St and @Ohio St kill Iowa’s hopes for a BCS bowl birth.
